Under Dr. Leanne Boehm and Dr. Makayla Cordoza, I am working on exploring the relationship between sleep/delirium and Post Intensive Care Syndrome in patients who have had an extended stay in the ICU at VUMC. In Dr. Boehm's study, the main goal is to determine the best intervention methods for patients with Post Intensive Care Syndrome (PICS). For this project, I am on the follow-up team, where I am responsible for calling enrolled participants 1-week post-discharge from the ICU and 6-month post-discharge, after possible intervention by the lab's medical team. During these phone calls, I have a variety of questionnaires that I give participants, which test their cognitive abilities, emotional deficits, and risks for PTSD, depression, etc. I am also the lead financial point of contact, meaning I send payment forms and ensure that each participant receives their incentive for participating in the study. For Dr. Cordoza's lab, the focus is on determining sleep changes associated with Post-ICU delirium. Several patients who have scheduled surgeries and are in the ICU end up in delirious states afterward. Our focus is on looking at how this delirium impacts sleep and how the lack (or not) of sleep exacerbates the delirium and cognitive deficits. My role for the study has been creating Standard Operating Procedures for the research team and the subjects themselves on using the sleep monitor and the Fitbit watch. We use the Cerebra sleep monitor and Fitbit to track the sleep of the participants before and during their ICU stay. I also transfer data from the sleep monitor data base to RedCap (our API). Most recently, I have been working on a paper/publication focusing on the methods of the Fitbit watch for our study, in which I am the primary/lead author, under Dr. Cordoza's mentorship. For both studies, I have weekly meetings, participant phone calls, and am responsible for data collection/upload into our API database.

Completed 75 clinical hours with assigned patients through my CNA certification program. Responsibilities include taking patient vital signs and transferring, bathing, feeding, and dressing patients in a long-term care facility.
