Respond to fire scenes and conducts on-site investigations of incendiary (arson) and accidental fires to determine the origin and cause; Conduct criminal follow-up investigations, interviews witnesses, firefighters and suspects, document the incident scene through the use of photography, scene sketches and diagrams, collect evidence, conduct background checks; Prepare comprehensive detailed reports for owners, fire departments, or other agencies and the Snohomish County Prosecutor’s Office; provide expert testimony for both criminal and civil court cases; Establish and maintain confidential files and databases; Provide fire prevention counseling/education to families of children involved in playing with fire; evaluate juveniles identified as being involved with fires; provide assistance as requested in delivering educational programs; Conduct inspections of special events, retail fireworks stands and fireworks displays; Train fire department personnel in fire investigation techniques; other duties as assigned or necessary.
