As a reading tutor with Americorps, I work one-on-one and one-on-two with children grades kindergarten through third grade to provide science-based literacy assessment and interventions. I assist children with Tier 2 interventions to improve their phonemic awareness, phonics, reading fluency, and oral reading fluency to reach grade level expectations. I track student progress by regularly entering data obtained during intervention meetings and assess progress using Curriculum-Based Measurements.

As an assistant preschool teacher, I support lead teachers in providing care and play-based educational activities for children between the ages of one and five. I help provide scaffolding for children to solve their own problems, foster curiosity about the world around them, and help create an environment that supports their learning. I’m trained in HighScope Preschool curriculum to provide experiences that support the development of fundamental abilities in early childhood.

I provided laboratory management for the Neiworth Primate Cognition lab headed by Dr. Julie Neiworth. In this role, I supervised a team of nine undergraduate researchers in research projects designed to capture the cognitive abilities of aging cotton-top tamarin monkeys. I provided research assistants in the lab with coordination and instruction for species-specific care of cotton-top tamarins, cleaning and maintenance protocols, and research methods for a study on episodic-like memory in aging cotton-top tamarins. I organized data collected on this project and was trained in SPSS and Excel to perform analysis and create graphs. Additionally, I upheld lab infrastructure by keeping lab documents up to date and regularly recording inventory.
