Computer Programmer/ Analyst
Worked independently to solve complex high level mathematical problems to aid Professor Paul Khele in his own research. Once I finish with a program, I work to make it as fast as possible since much of the research that we do requires an enormous amount of computer power where permuting through one entire matrix can take hours to complete; on larger numbered orders these searches can take days or even weeks. Finally, I present these programs to Paul who sets them running on his research computers. Additionally, when either Paul or our co-worker Josh Danis have questions regarding their own programs or problems with Java and/or Eclipse, they would turn to me for assistance.
Research Assistant
Working for Professor Paul Kehle, my main focus had been in finding a formula which yields the number of non-isomorphic circulant graphs on any given order. This formula has been, and unfortunately remains unknown, even after my research with Paul. Further, since I am technically a computer science major and not a mathematics major, Paul often gave me programming tasks to aid in both of our research work - his focusing primarily on Ramsey Theory. For instance, I wrote a program which he will use in future years to discover whether any given matrix is isomorphic to a circulant graph. Our search remained consistent with earlier years in that it remained an empirical approach rather than an analytical theorem proof approach. Either Paul would provide me with code, charts, graphs, and various other forms of data, or I would write my own programs to discover new and interesting patterns amongst orders. Both techniques helped cancel out/ factor in variables which might be used to discover the correct formula. Some of the things that I paid particular attention to this summer included the effects on the number of non-isomorphic graphs by repetitions, perfect squares, mersenne primes, Fibonacci numbers, cube numbers, Euler's totient values, geometric sequences, and various other arithmetic sequences.
