    August 2016Inpatient OT in the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Unit (BIRU)9 month rotation within the specialised BIRU ward.Patient caseload consists of people who have experienced severe to extremely severe traumatic brain injuries. These patient experience a range of physical cognitive and behavioural impairments from their injuries and patients range from 16-65 years old.Job Roles:- Initial and progress assessments including a range of standardised outcome measures for upper limb; perception; sensation; vision; cognition, pressure care; wheelchair and seating, functional performance in ADL's and IADL's, home assessments.- Specialised seating assessment and complex wheelchair prescription including ongoing monitoring and adjusting of seating systems to enhance patient outcome.- Liaision with equipment representatives for trial and prescription of complex equipment.- Cognitive and functional retraining for a range of ADL's and IADL's based on the patient centered goal. Retraining is based from the Canadian model of occupational performance and engagement.- Management of upper limb tone and spasticity with splinting and serial casting - Use of EBP for all rehabilitation techniques. - Close collaboration with the patient and family in developing patient centered SMART goals for rehabilitation. - Close collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team including team meetings, joint assessment and therapy sessions, goal planning sessions, behaviour support plan development.- Carer training and development of resources to support carers- Functional reports, care needs reports, equipment prescription forms, major home modifications reports, discharge reports for insurance companies and government funded bodies- Referral to outpatient OT services for continuity of care- Participation in a research project to facilitate the use of CIMT within a rehab unit- Participation in a range of Quality improvement projects and professional development opportunities
