About Madeleine Carr
At my very core, I am a storyteller. My love for the craft began the second I read Dr. Seuss’ “Green Eggs and Ham” at the age of three and a half. An unassuming observer most likely heard the melodic ringing of angels as I delved into the world of Sam-I-Am and sickly-hued breakfast food. My obsession only grew with age — I’m proud to say the school librarians and I were on a first name basis a year into grade school. When I’d worked my way through every book in the children’s section shelves, I found myself writing tales of my own. I retroactively apologize to trees everywhere for the stacks of haphazardly stapled-together novellas that cluttered my childhood desk.I learned to tell others’ stories as a journalist, acting as a platform for others’ voices to be told. I realized the potential my passion had to help those around me — to enact change that could shape communities. As a news and managing editor for a newsroom of 65, I learned how I could help refine and enhance other reporters’ stories through deep copyediting under Associated Press Style, as well as the unique styles of the various publications I’ve worked for. With my bullet journal practically glued to my hip, I pride myself on my ability to manage multiple deadlines at a time. After experience covering breaking news situations such as the Borderline Shooting and the Woolsey Fire, I am no stranger to getting copy in under the weight of a ticking clock.I love telling a story — whether over coffee, recounting the time I ran into Lady Gaga at church, or on the page, detailing pro surfer Bethany Hamilton’s experience as an athlete and mother. I’ve never experienced runner’s high, but I imagine it’s akin to the feeling I get when my fingers start gliding over a keyboard.Skills: Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Microsoft Office, WordPress, Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, Associated Press Style writing and copyediting, copyediting for Hawaiian diacritical marks
