Madison earned her BS in Biochemistry from the University of Colorado Colorado Springs in 2022. Under the mentorship of Dr. James M. Kovacs, she conducted research in biophysical chemistry and biochemical protein engineering, focusing on the design and synthesis of novel enzymes for the remediation of carcinogenic perfluorinated compounds (PFCs). She also participated in projects aimed at characterizing virus-host interactions to understand the CR2-C3d molecular interactions between the complement cascade and the HIV reservoir. She graduated with High Distinction in Research Honors and was an invited speaker at several regional and national scientific meetings including the American Chemical Society. In addition, she is passionate about addressing health disparities and promoting STEM education among underrepresented and underprivileged groups. She founded and led the UCCS STEM Outreach Program, which invites students from diverse backgrounds to experience collegiate-level labs in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, and human anatomy.From 2022 to 2024, Madison was appointed to a post-baccalaureate fellowship at the Vaccine Research Center (VRC), National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), National Institutes of Health (NIH) under the mentorship of Dr. Richard Koup. There, she studied and produced anti-HIV-1 antibody-based therapeutics as well as pioneered a study harnessing the complement system using modified broadly neutralizing antibodies to enhance in vivo lysis of HIV-1 and SHIV. She gained valuable experience leading large-scale studies utilizing mice, non-human primates, and human tissue samples from ongoing clinical trials. For this work, she gave a main session plenary talk at the 2023 International Keystone Symposia: HIV Vaccines, Immunoprophylaxis and Drugs meeting. Madison is now an Immunobiology PhD student at Yale University School of Medicine, where she is committed to furthering her scientific career by conducting globally relevant biomedical research. She is a 3x U.S. National Medalist in figure skating and a certified EMT and BLS provider.
