Hello! My name is Madison Mabry, and I am a third year student at The University of Texas at Austin. I am currently double majoring in History and Textiles and Apparel with an English minor. I have a strong passion for learning, and I do my best to push myself in all of my work. My work ethic has allowed me to earn a 3.94/4.0 GPA at UT Austin!During my time at UT Austin, I want to learn all I can to give that back to the world. History as a study is cyclical, and understanding what has happened can help us understand what is presently happening and what will happen in the years to come. A major that requires such a wide range of skills such as critical thinking, organization, analysis, creativity, and determination under a topic that I thoroughly enjoy captivated me. I knew that this was where I needed to go, and I wanted to put those skills that I have acquired back into the world to further the knowledge we have.My interest in textiles has also been a theme throughout my life. I specifically love historical fashion, and I was interested in the TXA program at UT from the moment I learned of it. Once I noticed I'd be able to graduate with a potential major in this program, I knew it was something I had to strive for. TXA is a way of self-expression that I believe the world needs. With clothing, we can know who someone is with a glance, and I want to use textile expression as a way to showcase different meanings. I specifically am interested in what historical clothing can say about a time period and how we can use clothing in movies, theater, and other forms of media to display information about characters without them even moving.During my completed two years at UT, I have taken the opportunity to explore the vast resources available to me. I am currently seeking out my first internship, but I have kept myself busy being an active member of my student organization doing theater. As a member of Creative Arts and Theater (CA+T), I have worked on six different theater productions as a technical crew member. In Fall 2023, I was the Tech Director for the biggest production CA+T puts on: the 42nd Annual Madrigal Dinner. I was also an actor simultaneously. Additionally, I acted in the Spring 2024 murder mystery show, and I was the Tech Director for our 2024 Spring production. This upcoming year, I am the Costume Designer for the 43rd Annual Madrigal Dinner.
