Director Of Postsecondary Access And Success
Access Coordinator
At Campus Compact for New Hampshire, I am the primary liaison between our GEAR UP New Hampshire cohort schools and grant management team. I am in charge of coordinating site visits to each school, organizing regional and annual meetings between our school districts, participating in activities at each school, and, overall, a teammate trying to change the college going culture in New Hampshire. GEAR UP New Hampshire partners with seven schools across the state (Berlin Middle School, Claremont Middle School, Franklin Middle School, Laconia Middle School, Lisbon Regional School, Stewartstown Community School, and Whitefield Elementary School) to work with their complete 7th and 8th grade classes on college knowledge, financial literacy, academic readiness, and college and career aspirations. GEAR UP New Hampshire follows these students (over 1,000) throughout their time in high school and each student, upon successful completion of the program, receives a scholarship to be applied after financial aid, provided they stay in the state of New Hampshire.
Vista Leader
During my second year of service, I served as a VISTA Leader responsible for record keeping for VISTAS in Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont, while serving at my host site at Dartmouth College. I helped plan and organize monthly meetings with all New Hampshire VISTAs. Once a month, I traveled to Concord to work with the National Service Coordinator on various meetings, organize VISTA paperwork and upload key information on secure spreadsheets. In December, I was able to attend VISTA Leader training in Denver, CO.
College Pathways Coordinator For Summer Enrichment At Dartmouth (Sead)
Continuing on my work as a Graduate Assistant for SEAD, I worked with SEAD's class of 2016 during their senior year of high school. I worked with them to boost their SAT scores and helped them and their families complete important documents such as college applications, college essays, FAFSA, and more. Out of 28 students in the 2016 class that year, 26 applied to college, and every student was accepted to at least one college or university. Throughout the year, I helped supervise Dartmouth students that we hired through SEAD's internship program where they worked directly in SEAD partner high schools. I had major roles in the planning, implementation, and execution of all orientations and debriefs of all of the interns. In the spring of 2015, SEAD hired 4 Assistant Student Directors to work under the Student Director with whom I assisted in supervising the ASD's work. The summer of 2016, I lead a two-week course designed to have the near-college students think about many different aspects of college featuring guest speakers from all over campus. Here I also had a major role to play with the training and debriefing of our staff for that year's three-week program. In total, I was tasked to supervise 28 students and 25 SEAD staff members including Dartmouth students, alumni, SEAD alumni, and high school interns from a local school in Hanover. Following the class of 2016 graduating, I signed a second year with AmeriCorps and helped start evaluating SEAD as a program. I took the lead on recruiting the next cohort of 32 students, as well as taking the lead on supervising Dartmouth Interns, Assistant Student Directors, and a Residential Director. During the summer of 2017, I directed the full summer-program under the guidance of the program's Executive Director. This summer included courses on creative writing and an experiential learning environmental studies course, meals with the provost, and a private talk with Dr. Cornel West.
Coordinator At The Bonathon
Graduate Assistant At Summer Enrichment At Dartmouth (Sead)
For three consecutive years, beginning in 2013, I worked with a cohort of students from four high schools (Bronx Center for Science and Mathematics, East Boston High School, Raymond High School, and Schenectady High School) participating in classes aimed at improving SAT scores, understanding financial literacy, fostering a college-going attitude, and finding your identity through activism. Students at the 4-year, residential program were from low-income schools and all were on the free or reduced lunch program and showed potential as defined by their own teachers. Over the summer, students attended classes in the morning and activities in the evening that I would participate in as well. I was called upon to lead sessions during orientation and debrief of staff as well as a students-only session where we discussed what it truly means to be college ready and how to talk about that with their families. Throughout the school year, I served in remote mentoring roles and was called upon as needed to work with specific students who needed extra assistance.
