As a Clore Cultural Leadership Fellow in 2022/3 I’m exploring a range of themes around leadership cultural production in the heritage sector. I'm also developing a provocation piece around how participatory programmes involving heritage sites and collections can improve people's material literacy, and in doing so help them to make more sustainable choices in their lives.

Working with teams across MOLA I devised strategies and brokered partnerships to support the generation of both revenue and impact. Relationships included major funders, local and national government bodies, and voluntary sector organisations of various sizes. Major achievements include: -the establishment of a cross-sector Archaeology Audience Network (collaborating with Dr Sara Perry, Director of Research & Engagement), bringing together community archaeology practitioners from 7 major UK organisations to pool audience date to improve impact and advocacy;- Leading on the collation, writing, and submission of major funding bids to bodies including The National Lottery Heritage Fund raising c. £600k p/a (including a successful development phase application for the 3 year, £2m+ 'Coasts in Mind' programme). This involved working across a range of different project types including Wellbeing/Social Prescribing work and Climate Heritage. - and working as Equality, Diversity, & Inclusion (EDI) lead to facilitate discussions at Board level about historic injustice/decolonisation and devise organisation-wide EDI Improvement Plans (in collaboration with an organisation-wide EDI Working Group).

Leading on public engagement initiatives for a major archaeology and built heritage unit. Portfolio includes volunteer-led projects such as Thames Discovery Programme and CITiZAN, working to upskill communities using the archaeology of our coasts and estuaries; Time Truck, a tool to support the property and construction sector in maximising the value of development-led archaeology for the communities where they work; and face-to-face and digital engagement programmes around high profile infrastructure projects.

Management of a new mobile archaeology exhibition/classroom/event space, The Time Truck (Operational from April 2016). Duties included developing content for a range of archaeological exhibitions, establishing a schools programme across 5 South and East London Boroughs, marketing the project to potential users across the Heritage, Construction, and Local Government sectors, managing the project budget, setting up project logisitics, putting in place appropriate staffing to support project activities, and establishing and maintaining long term supporting partnerships with corporate and philanthropic organisations to ensure project sustainability. In its first year of operations the Time Truck delivered public events reaching over 3000 members of the public as well as delivering Archaeology based schools workshops to over 5000 8-11 year olds in its target boroughs, all of which was completed within budget.

Recruited to support the implementation of a new fundraising function within this major archaeological charity. Activities included developing clear cases for support, working with senior management, board members, and HNW individuals, delivery of major profile raising events, and implementation of new contact management systems for the function. Successful grant applications raised over £60k toward the innovative Time Truck (mobile archaeology exhibition/classroom/event space).
