• Investigated the reaction of glyoxylate with pyruvate under aqueous conditions (without the need for metals or enzyme catalysts) which produced a series of alpha-ketoacid analogs whose resemblance with reductive citric acid cycle has been demonstrated. These transformations could have served as potential forerunners of the modern metabolism. Additionally, transamination of these alpha-ketoacid analogs to amino acids has also been demonstrated.• Developed a versatile phosphorylating reagent (bis(dimethylamino)phosphorodiamidate) that regio-selectively and efficiently phosphorylates a vicinal cis-diol moiety of polyol-organics in excellent yields and without the need for any protecting group chemistry. The utility of this reagent is demonstrated through the one-step synthesis of high-value targets such as cyclic phosphates of myo-inositol, nucleosides, metabolites and drug molecules in gram scale.• Improved the efficiency of TEMPO-mediated regioselective oxidation of unprotected carbohydrates and nucleosides by simple temperature modulation.• Demonstrated that the commercial Hyaluronic acid (HA) samples should be purified before using them along with oligonucleotides because most of the HA samples are contaminated with RNAse that cleaves the RNA oligonucleotides specifically at the 5'-U•A-3' junction.
