About Md. Shakir Mahmud, Ph.D.

My research to date has focused on how road user's behavior changes in consideration of roadway characteristics, traffic conditions, and different traffic control devices, and how this changed behavior impacts traffic safety and operations. With these views in mind, my research efforts include: (i) testing and implementing different traffic control devices as a safety measure at freeway exit ramps, rural highway curves, speed transition zones, freeway bridge decks, and work zones; (ii) evaluating the impact of speed limit increases on freeways and rural highways on drivers at different speed percentiles; and (iii) evaluating the impact of highway geometric characteristic on driver behavior and safety. While I am often exploring other aspects of transportation, I want to continue working on identifying safety-related issues and testing potential solutions.
