Hi there, I'm Makenna Held. You might recognise me as the 'person who bought Julia Child's house in the South of France that has a TV show on Max and Magnolia Network. That's true. BUT! Most importantly? I'm the co-founder and CEO of RecipeKick. An education, technology, and travel platform to teach home cooks to cook better. With and without recipes.Our mission is to empower home cooks to think more creatively in their kitchens, to unlock new ways of being in themselves, too.Our impact saves people oodles of time with just a few small tweaks (our customers save over 100 hours a year on average; significant for a year, life altering over a lifetime); encourages people to shop seasonally/locally; brings creativity & joy back to cooking; lowers the carbon footprint of cooking significantly; and vastly improves people's skillset in and out of recipes. At RecipeKick we do this by blending the world altering potential of AI and humanising it with real-life cooking demos & in-person trips to unique food-focused destinations. As a recipe developer and cookbook author myself, I know the power of a good recipe. AND I know the power of being able to not rely solely on recipes. Our AI and cooking model isn't built to eradicate recipes, it's built to allow cooks to have access to the recipes they already know and love at their fingertips, AND to create new dishes with new, exciting flavors. My commitments to doing things 'better' overall include: * Building educational paradigms in the cooking world to build capacity to cook from the hip, and eliminate the dependance on recipes (teaching cooking is ripe for disruption, we've been teaching cooking the same way for a long long time, and it doesn't match the real implications of shopping/planning/cooking). And much of that cooking labor often falls on women, so if we can significantly reduce the burden? All. The. Better. * Using AI in cooking education to create a more just, equitable food system to empower cooks to use whatever they have on hand, and lower their carbon impact in the process. * Shifting traditional forms of capitalism to support the collective. * Cultivating businesses that input more than they extract* Building equitable, commitments driven teams * Willingness to vision big for a better tomorrow.
