I've always been obsessed with materials and connections. Growing up, I'd scavenge "perfectly rusted" crushed metal pieces from parking lots, saving them in a box for a later project. My love for exploring materials and making connections led organically to degrees in Environmental Design and Architecture, where the studio environment nurtured my curiosity and led me to explore even further how these materials were connected to our human experience.After graduation, I felt so drawn to the design process that I began teaching as adjunct faculty at NDSU and Concordia, teaching students about exploring materials and communicating their ideas through sketches and models.I wanted so deeply to share the benefits I have personally gained through making things with the greater community, and I sure had the surplus of materials and tools in my personal collection to get started. On a whim, I founded Make Room, a studio and gallery for creative people to experience art, learn new skills, and share their passions. Over the course of 3.5 years, my studio has grown, hosting thousands of creatives during hundreds of unique events and workshops, giving a home to all those who long for a connection with their creative selves.Fun things about me:I'm a busy and curious person who wishes I had nine lives like my cats so I could try everything once. I love music and playing instruments (I recently found a Russian YouTube channel with "karaoke" background tracks for saxophone and I'm obsessed). I've just recently realized that at age 31, I might never get the chance to play Orphan Annie on Broadway, and I'm super bummed about it. I love assembling furniture and riding bikes, and I'm in a serious relationship with coffee.
