Member of the City and County of San Francisco’s Board of Supervisors, representing District 2 which included the Presidio, Pacific Heights, Presidio Heights, Marina, Cow Hollow, Sea Cliff, Laurel Heights, Jordon Park and parts of Russian Hill. As a member of the Board my emphasis was on job growth and creation. Among my numerous accomplishments are the following:- Through passage of a Charter Amendment I established the first economic plan for San Francisco, required an economic analysis of legislation be performed on legislation before being allowed to vote and hired the City’s first economist. - Through Charter Amendment required qualifications for the Head of Disaster Management for the City and County of San Francisco. - Wrote and passed the first Film Rebate program in the state of California.- Required Sutter Health to rebuild and keep St. Luke’s Hospital in the Mission.- Fought against the Mayor, Board President, City Attorney and district Supervisor, and ultimately prevailed, in not rebuilding a new Murant fossil fuel burning Peaker Plant in the Bay View.- Oversaw the rebuilding of the Marina Yacht Harbor.- Established the creation of the Francisco Park in Russian Hill.- Aided in the rebuilding of the Booker T. Washington Community Center.- Passed legislation requiring the testing of all rape kits within 2 weeks.- Passed legislation regulating Cannabis Dispensaries.- Passed legislation outlawing smoking in parks and public sporting areas.* Partial list of accomplishments.

City And County Of San Francisco

The Port Commission is responsible for the seven and one-half miles of waterfront adjacent to San Francisco Bay, which the Port develops, markets, leases, administers, manages and maintains. The Port’s operating portfolio is composed of over 550 ground, commercial, retail, office, industrial and maritime industrial leases, including many internationally recognized landmarks such as Fisherman’s Wharf, PIER 39, the Ferry Building, and the San Francisco Giants ballpark. As a member of the Commission my focus was Port security and waterfront development.

Democratic Nominee for Secretary of State on a platform of encouraging young people to vote, ensured access to voting for people with disabilities, offering permanent absentee ballots to any Californian who would like it, encouraging multi-day voting, the use of technology in voting and cracking down on voter fraud while ensuring the integrity of our voting system. I was the youngest person to ever win a Statewide Primary in California at 28. I lost to the incumbent by a percentage point.

Northern California

Democratic Nominee for California’s 1st Congressional District which ran from Napa and Sonoma counties in the South, Del Norte County in the North and Solano County to the West. Issues ranged from environmental and economic issues surrounding logging and salmon runs, marijuana, grape growing and wine making, social security, health care and gun control. It was one of the Top 10 Democratic target races in the country and garnered national attention. I was the youngest female nominee to ever win a Congressional Primary at 27. I lost to the incumbent by less than 4%.During this campaign I was asked to second the nomination of Vice President Al Gore at the Democratic Convention.

As one of nine members of Vice President Al Gore’s Domestic Policy Office I was one of three people responsible for his Briefing Book. Among some of my responsibilities:- Top Secret Security Clearance. Produced Vice President, Al Gore’s daily domestic policy briefings and assembled his daily Briefing Book ranging in issues related to the Environment, Education, Telecommunications, Labor, Legislative Affairs, Health Care, Reinventing Government, NAFTA, International Space Station, Community Empowerment Zones, etc.- Prepared Vice President’s Weekly Telecommunications Briefings & Briefed/Prepped for NAFTA debate- Point person on the Vice’s Presidents Reinventing Government Initiative in the Domestic Policy Office- Point Person on the Superconducting Supercollider Project in Texas* Partial List

Part of a group of members of the Clinton/Gore Transition Team responsible for writing, assembling and preparing the Briefing Book and transitional memos for Health and Human Services Clinton appointee, Secretary Donna Shalala. My primary focus was the National Council on Disability, policies, goals and appointments.

Briefed the principals on disability policy, worked with speech writers to ensure proper inclusion of disability issues in speeches, worked at National debates, ensured that disability policy was incorporated into the policies of the campaign, ensured that we had sign language interpreters and accessible communication devises at all events and offices, ensured equal access at events, and coordinated 50 state disability reps across the country.
