Hello! Thank you for visiting my LinkedIn profile. I am currently a teacher at Ben Franklin Elementary School in Menomonee Falls, WI. It is truly a gift to grow children's love and abilities in all academics through exploration, games and rigorous curriculum.I fell in love with teaching after experiencing all the joys that educating engaged and empowered students can bring. My students are thrilled to become reading detectives, write persuasive papers on green eggs and ham, build leprechaun traps, dress up like dalmatians for 101 days of school fun and parade the halls to showcase the amazing books they have written. From the field trips packed with teachable moments to all the amazing days of laughing and learning through creating and fun, teaching both first and third has been an incredible experience. I am privileged to help shape their beautiful minds! Through my time, I have worked closely with my colleagues to grow in my knowledge of reading instruction and the developmental norms of first and third grade children.. I have learned and grown my skills through the research of Marie Clay, Jan Richardson, and used the Reading and Writing Units of Study by Lucy Calkins and company. These amazing role models and teachers of mine have shaped me into the teacher I am today. I have observed a reading recovery lesson and have experienced the power of reflection after being observed and observing others. Teacher collaboration is one of the most powerful tools educators have to further student success. All students will reach their goals with teachers who collaborate and work to understand their needs through reflection of practice. Constant reflection and the drive to become better has always been a strength for me because I value listening to the viewpoints of my colleagues. I hope to continue my educational journey in any capacity it presents itself. Being able to break down challenging concepts into an easy to understand format for young minds has built my confidence in working with adults. Making work engaging and meaningful for adults is challenging but not as hard as captivating the attention of a room full of six year olds.
