About Malvika Jolly

I am an arts nonprofit professional with 5+ years of experience supporting grassroots arts and cultural production. I have directed, produced, and hosted special programs and events for the Brooklyn Rail, Kinvene Collaborative, Pamenar Press, Poetry Northwest, Tamaas, World Poetry Books, and more.I have coordinated a wide array of events—from artist conversations, book launch events, poetry readings, and live/hybrid performances, to mindfulness/movement workshops, children’s programming, virtual writing programs, landmark community dinners, and educational offerings. I provide Zoom technical support for virtual programs as needed. I have previously worked as a grant-writer for cultural organizations, and have successfully secured substantial funding for the Brooklyn Rail, Kundiman, and personal projects. I have also worked as a copyeditor, fact-checker, and freelance transcriptionist for publications such as Artforum, Brooklyn Rail, Chicago magazine, Data & Society, SSENSE, South Side Weekly, and The New York Times. As a writer and translator (between Hindi, Urdu, and English), I have a passion for all things polyvocal. My writing explores postcolonial poetics, magical realism, imperialism, hybridity, women’s narratives, folklore, and mythology, and has been featured in MIZNA, The Rumpus, The Best Small Fictions Anthology 2023, and elsewhere. I proudly edit for Poetry Northwest, one of the oldest literary magazines in the United States, and curate The New Third World, a poetry reading series inspired by the Non-Aligned Movement. For 2023–24, I am interested in the following projects: • Moderating live conversations, discussions, interviews, and talk-backs with artists, authors, and filmmakers in NYC. • Curating special events programming to accompany and "activate" art exhibitions featuring BIPOC artists.• Supporting large-scale Art Fairs and Literary Festivals in NYC, Los Angeles, New Delhi, and Bombay.• Speaking opportunities on diversity and racial equity "best practices" in literary publishing and the culture industry.
