Better Together Animal Alliance (Formally Panhandle Animal Shelter (PAS)) is an animal welfare organization focused on enhancing the lives of dogs, cats and the people who love them. We are the main intake facility for the two northern counties in Idaho. Home to Home (www.home-home.org) was established by BTAA to provide a positive alternative to shelter intake for owners who need to surrender their pets. Home to Home allows owners who need to rehome the opportunity to keep their pets in their homes while we promote them for rehoming. This allows pets to go from one home to another. Shelters throughout the country are now utilizing the home-home.org to reduce intake by 20-33%.

CurrentAs a animal welfare executive I saw an alarming increase in our owner surrenders. I called my industry partners to learn about best practices with intake diversion. Then my team and I decided to adopt industry best practice, but added a twist. Home To Home is a fully branded website for each participating shelter. It becomes their tool for helping owners rehome their pets rather than intake into the facility. Tied into each organization's social media, Home To Home leverages their community support to help rehome pets. This intake diversion tool supports the community in their efforts to do the best for their pets while reducing intake to the shelter. Participating shelters have noted an increase in their customer service, a more positive relationship with their community and a (13-31%) decrease in their owner surrender intake.
