Wales Wide (Based In Cardiff)

Participation Cymru is the lead body in Wales for public, service user and staff engagement. It aims to increase the skills and capacity of public service organisations to better engage with the public, users of services and staff. My role is to lead and manage the Participation Cymru team and to work with the Advisory Panel who steer our work. I work closely with Welsh Government to inform and shape policy and also work on an operational level as a trainer and consultant to public service organisations.

Wales Wide

Cartrefi Cymru is a not-for-profit organisation that supports people in Wales to lead fulfilled lives, at home and in the community. It support peoples with disabilities, autism, challenging behaviour, older people, and provide breaks and support for carers. My role was to support staff and volunteers within Cartrefi Cymru and other similar Third Sector organisations to improve their skills and confidence. This was achieved through a Welsh Government funded project called ‘Connecting Learners’ that offered training in literacy, numeracy, confidence building and ICT skills. I project managed this work being responsibility for commissioning of training, budget management and also delivering the training myself.

St Davids Diocese (Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire And Ceredigion)

I fulfilled this post the same time as I was working as Chaplain and Communications officer for the Bishop of St Davids. This role included the development and delivery of the recruitment and selection process for potential clergy within the Church in Wales. I covered the areas of Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion. This was a highly developed, challenging and lengthy process with 2 stages. The second stage involved a 3 day residential selection process where candidates were tested on academic rigour, personality and inter-relationship skills and leadership and management. This role also involved me in training new recruits and mentoring.

St Davids Diocese

In this role I was involved in press and media work on behalf of the Bishop and the wider church within the Diocese. This often involved very sensitive handling of situations that sometime made the national tabloid press. It also involved working as a lead communications officer for internal and external communities. I am a confident public speaker and experience in handling radio and TV media interviews. In this role I found myself a part of the senior management team of the diocese, made up of the bishop, 3 archdeacons and dean of the cathedral. I also involved me in working closely with the Bishop’s PA to organise his diary and prepare briefings for him on work her was involved in. It also involved me in dealing with staff within the diocese. During this time I was also a member of the Governing Body in Wales, campaigning for Women Bishops and Gay clergy.

Tumble, Carmarthenshire

In this role I have administration, financial and pastoral oversight of the parish of approximately 11,000 people. I managed volunteers on a daily basis in their various roles within the parish and chaired the parish council who acted as trustees of the parish. I have found that this responsibility with its wide remit and challenging financial environment equipped me with the leadership and management skills that I have used in new roles ever since. This work demanded disciplined self-management, flexibility, effective relationship building and transparent and accountable financial management.

Carmarthen

In this role I had pastoral responsibility for staff and students within the college. I was part of the counselling team and also organised Christian worship within the college. During this time I also lectured within the theology and religious studies on a part time basis.
