Profile bio

About Mandy Pellatt

I first entered the world of newspaper and magazine publishing and media in October 1992, when I took on the role of feature writer for the Stroud News and Journal and Gazette newspaper titles. After a couple of years working as a feature writer for the Bailey Newspaper Group (now Newsquest), I trained on the job, studying journalism law, to become a sub-editor - a role which features predominantly in my curriculum vitae over the past 20-plus years. There's a four-year gap in my news and magazine publishing career, between 2006 and 2010, when I took time out to help establish and develop video production company, Cordial AV - something I still do today on a part-time basis.Having enjoyed a long and varied career in the newspaper and magazine publishing industry, as well as helping in the running of Cordial AV, I made the foray into marketing in a more official capacity in 2014, when I left my full-time role as sub-editor for The Gloucester Citizen and Gloucestershire Echo to help implement, build and develop marketing practices for local solar PV specialist, Roxon Electrical. My years spent in the magazine and newspaper industry, coupled with my experience helping to develop and run Cordial AV, proved an invaluable basis upon which to hone my skills in my new role as marketing manager.

Listed skills include Photography, Photoshop, Social Media Marketing, Copy Editing, and 21 others.

Business And Marketing Manager

Cordial Av

Gloucester, United Kingdom

For the past 10 years I have helped establish and develop film production company, Cordial AV, and assist in its day-to-day running. I have helped in establishing Cordial's identity as a video production house within Gloucestershire, predominantly, quickly developing a client base which now includes the likes of Gloucestershire NHS Trust, Trinity Mirror / Local World, Gloucestershire Constabulary, Gloucester City Council and Gloucestershire County Council. Over the past 10 years I have learned and developed a wealth of new skills in my unofficial role as 'business and marketing manager' for Cordial AV. When involved in a full-time capacity my daily duties were many and varied, including the co-ordination and running of the marketing, publicity and social media element of the business. As well as customer liaison I was - and still am - responsible for the drafting of quotations, proposals and tenders. My one enduring role is the "booking in" of film projects, the running of the camera crew's diaries and co-ordination of the crew's shoot schedules. This involves a huge amount of liaison between both our clients and the subjects of the films for which we have been commissioned to produce. In my time helping with the running of Cordial, I have also assisted on many an animation and film-making workshop, working with groups of children and young adults - both in mainstream and special needs education - as well as community groups. As an additional service to the video production element of the business, Cordial AV operates a short-run CD and DVD duplication service, which I manage and oversee - creating and proofing artwork for on-body disc print and CD/DVD covers, printing discs and covers, assembling CD/DVD units and organising shipment to customers. On occasion I help out as a voice artist. I also assist on film shoots and carry out very basic offline edits using professional editing software, Final Cut Pro.

Business And Marketing Manager

New Chambers, Units B&C, 9 Hucclecote Road, Gloucester Gl3 3Tq

For the past 11 years I have been involved in developing, marketing and running film production company, Cordial AV.I took a break from the newspaper industry in 2006 to help establish and expand the business - supporting in its transition to commercial studio when it moved into former match factory, Morelands Trading Estate, in Bristol Road, Gloucester. I was instrumental in establishing Cordial's identity as a video production house, quickly developing a client base which now includes the likes of Gloucestershire NHS Trust, Trinity Mirror / Local World, Newsquest, Gloucestershire Constabulary, Gloucester City Council, Macmillan and Gloucestershire County Council. Over the past 11 years I have learned and developed a wealth of new skills in my role as business and marketing manager for Cordial AV.

Apr 2006 - Jun 2018

Marketing Manager

Innsworth Technology Park, Gloucester

The main aspect of my role within this busy electrical company was the management of its marketing and publicity - particularly that of the solar PV facet of the business. A large element of my day-to-day responsibilities included conceptualising, creating and implementing promotional campaigns, such as the 'Win a solar PV system' competition; a hugely successful campaign which ran for several weeks in The Gloucester Citizen, Gloucestershire Echo and Western Daily Press in 2015.As well as managing the company's social media accounts (primarily Twitter, Facebook, Flickr and Google+), I wrote all of Roxon Electrical's marketing and promotional material, compiled, produced and managed regular email campaigns, wrote and designed the company's quarterly newsletter and promotions, as well as produced newsworthy content for publication in regional news titles. I also wrote regular blogs for the company website, compiled a weekly online newspaper titled #Roxon #Solar #News, kept the company Flickr account regularly updated and conducted market research - keeping up to date with the latest news, events and advances within the solar sector. Another key and very crucial aspect of my day-to-day role was data analysis and the management of the surveyor's diary.I followed up every solar PV enquiry generated by and received from various lead providers, as well as those received via the Roxon Electrical website; telephoning and emailing householders and business owners who had made an enquiry about solar PV with a view to furnishing them with further information and arranging a site visit from our surveyor to conduct a solar survey. I was also responsible for writing and designing the company's publicity material - special offers and promotions, both printed and online - and running and maintaining the Roxon Electrical eBay shop.

Jun 2014 - Jul 2016

Sub Editor

Cheltenham, Gloucestershire

In my role as sub-editor I worked at The Gloucester Citizen and Gloucestershire Echo newspaper offices in St James' House, Cheltenham. I worked full-time in the central subbing pool in a team comprising myself and around 10 fellow sub-editors. My daily tasks involved proofing, rewriting and sub-editing the journalists' copy, writing headlines, sub-heads and captions and designing and producing the news pages electronically using a Quark-based publishing software package. As well as the news pages, I was also responsible for sub-editing weekly supplements such as Citizen People and The Business.

Jun 2013 - Jun 2014

Community Publisher

Gloucestershire

In my role as freelance community publisher for the Gloucestershire cluster of Local People websites, I was responsible for generating the content for nine separate ‘hyper-local’ sites: Stonehouse, Stroud, Quedgeley, Nailsworth, Dursley, Wotton-under-Edge, Cirencester, Forest of Dean and Tewkesbury People. My duties involved managing and maintaining my own diary, setting up appointments, interviewing subjects, attending and covering events, writing news articles and features, shooting and editing video and stills to create video and photo galleries of events, features and news articles for direct upload to the Local People sites, as well as the Gloucester Citizen and Gloucestershire Echo websites. Effectively, the job description of the modern-day community publisher encompasses five different roles: journalist, sub-editor, editor, photographer and videographer. Skills acquired in this role included video and photographic shooting and editing, as well as the optimisation of imagery and digital content for web delivery. Other duties carried out within the role of community publisher included the creation and maintenance of a public image, profile and presence within the community for each of the Local People sites, as well as establishing and developing valuable contacts with community groups, charities, organisations, local authority officials, local police, parish and county councillors and MPs. Social media applications such as Twitter and Facebook proved an invaluable tool in the gathering of content and information, and helped greatly in my endeavours to foster and develop contacts and relations within the communities served by the individual Local People sites. The use of social media also helped me to establish and maintain an identity and brand within those communities.
