As a born and raised average Jane in Hong Kong,I went through the cookie cutter education, with no opportunity of a higher education locally, I boldly went overseas to seek knowledge. Since the age of 15, my folks sent me overseas every summer to broaden my horizon, open my eyes to the ever changing world. To that I am enternally grateful, and because of them, I took the leap and went to the States as an exchange student, and went back for college after. Being alone in a foreign country, and not so fluent in English, I struggled. But I promised myself that I will be fluent in English. With the help of professors and friends, I achieved my goal. I double majored in International Trade and Marketing, and graduated with a BA degree. Although my goal was to get a degree, to wear my cap and gown and throw my cap in the air like I have seen on TV (haha), but the greatest knowledge didn't come from that. I learned to appreciate everyone and everything I have in my life, to be sensitive to others' cultures, to not judege people but to accept them for who they are, to be humble, to have commpassion, to have integrity, and most of all - to be an indiviual. Even now, as an adult, as a mom, I am still learning. Experiencing life outside of my comfort zone was the greatest decision in my life (thanks mom and dad). One can never have enough knowledge, and I am a true believer of the Chinese saying: reading ten thousand books is not as good as traveling ten thousand miles.Thank you for reading my novel ( HAHA)
