I undertook the role of Project Manager at Northwest Anglia NHS Foundation Trust specialising in fire safety improvement works covering 3 hospitals. All project work was in line with current HTM’s FSO and HSWA. The main 3 areas of works were fire alarm upgrades to L1, replacement and repair of fire doors, correction of fire stopping and compartmentation issues and mapping and confirming all 30 and 60-minute firewalls were in place as per HTM’s and completing any repairs as necessary to bring any deficiencies up to standard. Working closely with the onsite Fire Safety Team and CFRS, I undertook the procuring of specialist contractors, seeking VFM and quality. I undertook extensive quality testing and signed off works only when completed to a satisfactory standard. While working for The Trust I undertook extensive intensive training on HTM 05. I worked closely with clinical staff, the infection control team, the communications team and contractors to ensure that the works were completed with the minimum of intrusion to all. I oversaw the upgrading of 5 wards to L1 fire alarm standard as per the HTM’s, Implemented the installation of over 150 ‘one-off’ L1 upgrades. I managed a number of very specialist firestopping projects in theatres, the energy centre, SCBU, and plant rooms, these all required extensive planning including the writing of EMPs, sending out communications Trust wide and carrying out works overnight and weekends to complete works with minimum disruption to all. I also oversaw the complete cause and effect surveys for fire alarms at both Hinchingbrooke and Stamford hospitals to the point of the implementing of solutions for all issues that were encountered during the investigation works. The repair and replacement of numerous fire doors throughout the 3 hospitals and a programme of works to survey and then remediate fire stopping and compartmentation issues at the 3 hospitals. I completed all areas of works that I managed on time and on budget.

East Suffolk Council self reported to The Regulator a number of deficiencies in Regulatory Compliance. Along with another consultant I was asked to assist in bringing these areas of deficiencies back up to regulations. Initially concentrating on identifying the areas of non compliance, we then set about procuring a large number of new contractors, while at the same time working with those already under contract to ensure they were competent and compliant. Once the contracts were in place we worked closely with them to formulate action plans to bring non compliant areas up to regulation quickly. We held monthly contract meetings with all contractors, internal meetings with individuals and departments who were involved in compliance works, site meetings and quality and quantity audits to ensure works were of a acceptable standard. Each month we produce a comprehensive report on all areas of compliance for The Regulator. The Regulator was happy with progress of works. I oversaw fire safety and the FRA providers as well as management of the remedial works off the back of the fire risk assessments. I was responsible for assigning all actions to contractors and individuals within the organisation. The program of works and signing off the works when completed satisfactorily. We spent a great deal of time and effort engaging with The FRS and building a good working relationship with them. We worked hard at implementing solutions to satisfy the Notices of Deficiencies that predated our arrival. I requested numerous surveys, both compartmentation and fire door surveys and organised works to complete remedial. Engaged a contractor to fit 3600 CO alarms in a 3 week period. Implemented the 70 plus points of the Fire Safety Regulation for HRHR buildings. Engaged a fire engineer to carry EWS on HRHR buildings. I also drafted a number of new policies and management plans.

Implemented a number intrusive fire risk assessments on higher risk buildings. Implemented additional fire safety measures on higher risk buildings and worked toward the removal of cladding on a HRHR building. Reviewed and rewrote policies and management plans and drafted those that were not in place.

I have more than 20 years experience as a gas engineer and have spent the last 10 years managing numerous areas of compliancy both operationally and strategically. I enjoy the challenges that this type of role affords and am always looking for ways to improve the things I do.

I was responsible for the annual servicing and maintaining of SE ducts that were in use with a view to decommissioning these within 12 months. I was responsible to instigate Legionella works and monitoring at numerous locations, having monthly meetings with the contractors.

I was initially employed as Gas Supervisor at the outset of the contract but as my role quickly developed and grew I was promoted to Gas Manager. I was responsible for the day to day running of the department; this included staffing levels, the selection of suitable engineers and operatives, oversight of contractors, planning of works. I had to maintain a database of all the planned works, breakdowns and servicing, I personally looked at all CP12's checking for compliance and completeness. I maintained a matrix of all engineers and sub contractor qualifications, ensuring they were in date and arranging for the updating of soon to be expired qualifications. Surveying of properties ready to install new boilers/cylinders and then pricing the works for client. Responsible for engineer’s health and safety and tool box talks. Regular meetings with client giving update as necessary liaise with client as to complaints and attend in order to resolve the complaints. I had to budget the department, invoice client and submit weekly/monthly reports and KPI's and as well as my day to day running of the department I was also involved in Company projects, in particular I was jointly involved in getting the company accredited to the Micro Generation Scheme.I am fully computer literate, focussed, motivated and professional. I started work as a general builder, sub contracting to a number of companies, I developed a number of useful trades to include, plastering, bricklaying, dry lining, groundwork’s, carpentry, tiling and plumbing. In 1995 I started to concentrate more on plumbing and heating and eventually concentrating solely on these trades. The majority of my work was with traditional materials and working on period properties.
