About Marc Veldt
Stories are very important in law. In day-to-day reality, law revolves around conflict situations in which judges, parties, and the public make choices. The stakes can be high. I am an Assistant Professor of Education at the Law Faculty of Utrecht University, and I see education and communication about law as a narrative practice. I supervise theses and teach at the department of Constitutional and Administrative Law and Legal Theory. Previously, I have also taught criminal, private, and European Law. I collect and spread knowledge about educational methods and innovation. In the Legal Skills Academy, we develop and support courses to build students’ skills, and we provide knowledge and expertise to teachers and students. As a teacher, writer, course designer, and previously as a television maker, I am always looking for creative ways to introduce and communicate complex topics. My goal is to make them accessible and interesting for my audience. I enjoy using a variety of media. I focus on clear and engaging writing, when I teach and participate in research projects. Currently, I teach how to write for readers outside your field of expertise, a course I developed for students from all faculties of Utrecht University. I am also experienced in visual communication. I intermittently work on freelance writing projects, and I'm ready to explore good story ideas. Many subjects are possible: legal, travel, national and foreign policy, etc. Previously, I taught European and international law at Radboud University.Before, I taught European Integration, International Crimes, and Principles of Private Law at Amsterdam University College.And I have been a teacher / tutor at Erasmus School of Law, teaching eight different law subjects.Previously I taught journalism and law at the Faculty of Journalism of the University of Applied Sciences in Utrecht. I gave tutorials in several writing genres, such as news and background articles, news features, reportages, and news analysis. I also taught how to make video reports and debating programs.I published a textbook on intellectual property - copyright, trademark law, etc. - in 2006 (ISBN 90 06 95214 1) called Bescherm je werk! (Protect your Work!).I also published a printed travel guidebook about Canada (May 2011, ISBN 978 90 257 4492 2, in the series 'Dominicus') and three e-books about regions of Canada (on Kobo and bol.com and iTunes):- Atlantic Canada (2014, ISBN 978 90 822709 0 7)- Alberta and British Columbia (2015, ISBN 978 90 822709 2 1)- Ontario and Québec (2015, ISBN 978 90 822709 3 8).
