Asset Reliability Engineering Intern

Hawthorne, California, United States

As an asset reliability intern, I assisted equipment reliability engineers with various projects, in hopes of increasing production reliability. I have gained exposure to Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), as well as the use of CAD (Siemens NX) to convert hand-drawn sketches into working CAD models and redesigned a seal housing unit to reduce machine downtime during preventative maintenance. In doing so, I have familiarized myself with the preventative maintenance process and have been able to piece together how to prevent machine failure or prolong it. I have also developed greater technical communication skills by actively engaging with technicians and engineers.

Thermal Vacuum Chamber Engineer

As a thermal vacuum chamber engineer, I work with a group of 3 other students to run dry test runs of our vacuum chamber. I have conducted literature review of turbo pump active gauge controllers, SED internal and external components, and vacuum chamber cleaning agents. Along with this I have been testing our vacuum chamber and drafted a set of procedures for cleaning the vacuum chamber, developed MATLAB scripts to generate plots representing all the data from the vacuum chamber tests, and integrated heating components to simulate variable heat and radiation effects of low Earth orbit conditions.During testing, I have recorded pressure values under various conditions. There had been just a select few variables that have been manipulated for analysis of the results. A few of these include the circular or square cross-section O-ring, the use of unengaged clamps versus bolts, and the use of type different pressure valves.

Maintenance And Repair Intern

Wilmington, California

As a maintenance and repair intern, I assisted department managers and engineers with various projects. A few include creating calibration parts for the automated equipment using CAD and 3D printing, recording pressure vessel information, and using an RF spectrum analyzer to find disturbing frequencies in an automation system. Teamwork played a large role in daily operations as I assisted other interns with their projects and they helped me with my own.

As a youth worker I collaborated with other volunteers to give to the community. This consisted of sanitizing public spaces, organizing clothes in the thrift store, and handing out meals to the less fortunate.
