Leading the City of Roanoke’s newest Economic Development Cluster, focused on innovation, business, and entrepreneurship, as well as fostering opportunities in our more economically challenged neighborhoods to connect with these successful sectors. These efforts include bolstering the City’s partnerships with various collaborators, including Virginia Tech, the Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute, the Regional Acceleration and Mentoring Program (RAMP), the Roanoke Regional Partnership, and others.

• Serves as the City’s representative to the development community for select public-private partnership projects, including working closely with numerous developers, contractors, engineers, and architects. • Coordinates development efforts on ten major capital projects valued at a combined $150 million, including a 22-acre mixed-use development situated on a former brownfield site and a three-story, 127 room hotel constructed atop an existing parking garage. • Works closely with City Management on numerous development-related issues, including permitting, construction, and community relations, as well as negotiation/management of incentive-based performance agreements and sales contracts with private development entities. • Writing, managing, and providing the framework for various City-related development initiatives, including: the strategic plan for a proposed public/private/academic innovation corridor and a tourism plan for a downtown multi-use hospitality project.• Writer and present administrator of a $600,000 grant awarded to the City from the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development’s Industrial Revitalization Fund for renovation of a former hospital administration building currently housing the region’s first technology accelerator. • Serves as the City representative to various professional and non-profit organizations, including the Go Virginia Region 2 Technology Working Group, the Roanoke-Blacksburg Technology Council, the Regional Acceleration and Mentoring Program (RAMP) Advisory Board, and the Jefferson Center Foundation Executive Board. • Organizes and hosts public forums with neighborhood civic leagues on various project-related issues, including rezoning, site development, and public safety. • Serves in leadership positions on various internal City teams, including the City’s Budgeting for Outcomes Program and the Wellness Committee.

• Promoted from Public/Private Development Coordinator position to lead community outreach efforts and to supervise a team of seven employees for the Surveying, GIS and Construction Inspection Divisions. • Served as the department’s representative to the Savannah area building community, including developers, contractors, engineers, and architects. • Coordinated development efforts for four City capital projects totaling over $50 million, including installation of $4.5 million in public utilities for Sustainable Fellwood Phase I, a mixed-income, mixed use development that replaced the City’s oldest public housing community. • Served as troubleshooter for problems in the City’s site plan review and building permitting processes to alleviate client delays while ensuring projects were constructed according to local, state, and federal standards. • Led departmental community outreach efforts, including a bi-annual “Permitting 101” seminar on the City’s permitting processes and “Homeowner’s Night,” an after-hours event held quarterly to expedite review and permitting of homeowner projects. • Served as facilitator for the Public and Safety Team as part of the City’s Budgeting for Outcomes process, a process that uses City employees to prioritize services, reduce costs and increase efficiencies. • Served as Chairperson for the City’s THRIVE Initiative, a committee dedicated to reducing the organization’s carbon footprint through environmentally conscious initiatives. • Led one of seventeen teams in the Bureau of Public Development’s “Neighborhood Renaissance” Program, in which City employees assisted with the revitalization of inner-city neighborhoods.
