Duties expanded to cover the creation and delivery of training documentation and SOPs,as well as further responsibilities for product quality and stock management.

Involved in all aspects of the production of our full range of Beers. Fully competent in the operation of a range of brewing & processing equipment, and moderately competent in the diagnosis of technical issues within the Brewery.

Placed through the Talent Scotland graduate programme, I am working with another student to provide a report for Scottish Water on the options available to them in designing a system to aid engineers in the field.

As part of my placement between August & October I was asked to help design a Datalogger for remote weather sensing. This was to allow users to monitor the viability of a site for a range of renewable energy sources and feed the data back to a web-enabled base unit. After the placement came to an end, this became the focus of the students final-year project, and I remained involved in the project, providing the design and construction of the electronic circuitry.

For this placement I was assigned to design info boards for use during open days. These were to explain the basic fundamentals of Wind, Solar & Hydrogen power, as well as LED lighting and Ground Source Heat Pumps. I also mapped the layout of the Renewables Croft. Based at the Lews Castle College, Stornoway, the Croft contains 3 hand-built Wind Turbines - each rated 1kW - 2kW of industrial solar PV arrays, demonstration equipment for GSHPs, Solar Hot Water and weather sensing equipment. I also wrote a manual for teaching 10-12 year old students about the basics of hydrogen, with the use of simplistic Hydrogen demo kits. This manual was aimed at introducing young children to renewable energy in an engaging and accessible way.

During my second placement I built an electricity-generating exercise bike, based on designs from a Wind Turbine Construction manual, written by Hugh Piggott. Due to my previous experience, I was also tasked as the lab technician, providing help for other students in the lab when necessary.

I was placed at the Hydrogen Teaching Lab through the Shell Step program. During the placement I wrote an instruction & teaching manual for students. This provided information of the safe operation of lab equipment, as well as providing lessons and questions for use with several interactive hydrogen teaching boards. I was required to provide a write-up and presentation of the project at a local-participants final on Lewis, and subsequently the Scottish & Northern Ireland final in Glasgow.
