Red Light jazz is an annual jazz festival in and around Amsterdam’s famous Red Light District. The festival, supported by local entrepreneurs, started in 2014 in 10 locations. Red Light Jazz highlights the rich tradition Amsterdam has as a true jazz city. The festival shows the public the cultural side of the Red Light District by celebrating the strong connection it has had with jazz music since the nineteen-thirties and fourties. It was around this time jazz found it’s way over from the States, taking root in the old part of Amsterdam in clubs such as the ‘Cotton Club’ and ‘Casablanca’.‘Casablanca’ at the Zeedijk gained a reputation as the ‘mecca for jazz lovers’. This is where the renowned sax player Kid Dynamite loved to play. Kid is one of the musicians being honoured by the festival along with the American trumpet player Chet Baker, who sadly lost his life in 1988 by falling out of the window from his hotel room at the Hotel Prins Hendrik.Performing artists at the first edition of the Red Light Jazz Festival in 2014 were: New Cool Collective, Michiel Borstlap, Hans Dulfer, Zandscape feat. Deborah J. Carter, Saskia Laroo, Alex Rossi, Pigalle 44, Edu Ninck Blok Trio, Lils MacKintosh & Clous van Mechelen, Miss Bee, Naked Ears and others.In June 2018 Red Light Jazz celebrated a first jubilee edition of the festival. A picture book was published looking back how Red Light Jazz started in 2014 and grew ever since. The 5th edition counted 38 locations and performing artists such as Tom Browne, Spargo, Fay Claassen, Ellen ten Damme, Omer Klein, Lucy Woodward, Gare du Nord, Wouter Hamel and many others.

Funk to the Max initially started in 1999 as a serie of funk parties at the Melkweg (Milky Way) in Amsterdam, sponsored by Pepsi. By the end of 2001 Funk to the Max changed their activities into a record label specialized in alternative and/or rare recordings from established and new funk artists. In 2004 Funk to the Max Records arranged and produced the first European tour of Slapbak, a funkband from Orange County California, founded and led by the talented multi-instrumentalist Jara Harris. The tour started with a concert at Paradiso Amsterdam, followed by concerts in Brussels and Paris. In 2005 Funk to the Max arranged more European tourdates for Slapbak. Seven Eleven is a Dutch funkband, founded in Amsterdam in 1987. The first recordings of the group were released in1989 on a Dutch compilation-cd named 'Funkin' Delight'. In 1990 Seven Eleven teamed up with Dope Posse, a hiphop outfit from Uden (NL), and presented rappers and a funkband live on stage. A few years later the band refined their funk formula with a horn section. After winning the Camelpop award in 1993 Seven Eleven recorded their debut-cd 'The Come Out’. The album was produced by New York guitarist Menace (Madonna, Bill Laswell, P-Funk) and released in 1996. 'The Come Out' received outstanding acclaims. In 1999 Seven Eleven started their own record- and publishing company. The single ‘Unfunky B.I.T.C.H.’ (1999) was the first release on Seven Eleven Records with cover artwork designed by P-Funk artist Stozo. Throughout the years the band’s energetic live reputation grew rapidly and soon Seven Eleven appeared on stages and festivals all over Europe. In the new millennium the band played and recorded with funk artists such as Fred Wesley (James Brown, Parliament), Mudbone Cooper (Parliament, Bootsy’s Rubber Band), Dawn Silva (Brides of Funkenstein), Jeanette Washington (Parlet) and Louis Johnson (Brothers Johnson). In 2012 Seven Eleven celebrated their 25th anniversary with the anthology '25 years and still funkin''. By the end of 2013 Seven Eleven started a collaboration with the London-based guitarist/producer Rob Manzoli (ex-Right Said Fred). Manzoli produced a new Seven Eleven studioalbum 'Back to the Source' which was released in 2015.

Redlight Casino was founded in 1987 and is located in the center of the Red Light District in Amsterdam, an exciting area full of erotic and other entertainment which needs no further introduction.In 2011 the City of Amsterdam refused to renew the license of the casino due to a loan which was given to the company in 2003 by the (at that time) wellrespected Dutch businessman and former banker mr. Jan-Dirk Paarlberg. In 2010 the court found mr. Paarlberg guilty on fraud and money laundering. Because the loan wasn't fully repaid (due to a seizure on the loan in 2006 by the Dutch Justice Department), the City Mayor was allowed to refuse Redlight Casino a new license, said the 'College van Beroep voor het Bedrijfsleven' which is the highest administrative court in The Netherlands for such cases in the Dutch gambling industry.Redlight Casino was forced to close its doors on March 19th 2012. On September 10th 2012 the case was send to the European Court of Human Rights for appeal. December 13th 2012 the Spanish judge L. López Guerra declared the appael inadmissible in a Single-Judge formation. The statement of the European Court of Human Rights reiterated: 'This decision is final. It is not subjected to an appeal either to the Grand Chamber or to any other body. The Registry is unable to provide further details concerning the Single-Judge's decision.'The remaining activity of the company is the exploitation of slotmachines in cafes and bars.
