After 6 years in the role of an Instructional Support Teacher, I have returned to the classroom to work with 9th - 12th grade students. Our district is building exciting CTE pathways and I recently completed my credential in CTE. The sector I teach in is Information and Communications Technologies and the pathway is Software and Systems Development. In addition, I continue to be involved with our math students. This past year, I participated on our District Educational Technology Task Force and represented our CTE department on the AVID site council.Back in the classroom, I am using skills honed during my time as an instructional coach and bringing in innovative programs for my students. One such program was made possible with a grant I received from our amazing MVLA Foundation. This allowed me to purchase equipment so that my Introduction to Computer Science students could do physical computing by creating autonomous vehicles. My students used Roboblocky, the interface developed by UC Davis C-STEM that supports block and text-based coding with virtual and physical robots called Linkbots. For the physical computing, my students coded using the ChIDE to control their LArduinos. LArduinos are Linkbots outfitted with Arduino boards. The ChIDE is an integrated development environment that allows students to easily code using a C-like interpreted language developed by Dr. Harry Cheng, the director of the C-STEM program.
