Furthermore, my role involved maintenance of the "open access" HPLC/UPLCs used by chemists/synthetic biologists, requiring in-depth knowledge on both Agilent's OpenLab software as well as the instruments themselves. Additionally, good communication and understanding was required to match the analytical needs of the chemists to the right instrumental setup and methods.I also had the opportunity to work in the Ware R&D site on a few occasions, providing me with some experience in drug product analysis, specifically batch release testing and content uniformity. Finally, towards the end of my placement, I was assigned to a small team where we began to work out the feasibility and analytical requirements of a large project transfer to Stevenage from an external site.As part of my final year project I worked on HPLC coupled with Charged Aerosol Detection (CAD), with the goal to improve quantification of analytes. My work was successful and consequently applied to analyse a critical step within the synthetic pathway of a novel drug. I later presented my work at the Chromatography consortium event, for which I was awarded the Highly Commended award (Bronze award) owing to my knowledge on the subject matter as well as my ability to communicate my thoughts effectively.
