Senior Database Analyst
CurrentSr Oracle Dba
Oracle DBA and Golden Gate Consultant at Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco.
Sr Database Administrator
Mr. Lima was tasked to take on a comprehensive infrastructure assessment to understand and fix replication issues across the Oracle environments. He drafted a strategic plan to revisit every infrastructure layer due to the suboptimal replication performance. Replication latency used to be the major issue for all SEARCH/Oracle Streams servers. The chronic poor performance was directly impacting the business’ revenue goals. Mr. Lima led extensive troubleshooting efforts to mitigate replication latency across Oracle databases. The Inventory and SEARCH architecture was built on Oracle EE 11g database (HP-UX 11 / 3PAR & RAMSAN storage) replicating data into Oracle SE 11gR2 (Linux 5 servers / SSD disks). This OLTP environment used to generate over 6GB of transactions every 5 to 10 minutes. Mr. Lima identified a variety of issues: disk swapping, high disk I/O latency for archive log files (near-line disks), various underperforming SQLs, capture & apply parameter misconfigurations, ORA-0600 bugs, Oracle Text indexes corruptions, Netscaler load-balancing connection mishandling and Linux’ hugepages requirements. Because of the OS, storage and database misconfigurations, the Oracle Streams servers had to be rebuilt multiple time causing constant outages and after-hour calls. He put together a long list of recommendations to stabilize the SEARCH servers and documented his findings and troubleshooting procedures. Today replication has been current and stable 99% of the time. That issue was responsible for the majority of off-hours calls to IS&T team as well as the significant business impact due to high number of orders cancellations. Installed, configured and recovered Oracle ASM. Mr. Lima installed and configured Oracle’s Golden Gate and Quest’s Shareplex replication solutions. And, he compared their pros and cons as possible alternatives to Oracle Streams. Installed and configured an updated version for Oracle Enterprise Manager (11g) and Weblogic.
