Highly experienced workplace mediator, conflict management skills trainer, author, and creator of ‘DIY Mediation’.As an accomplished workplace mediator, accredited by CEDR and Civil Mediation Council Registered, I have mediated a wide range of cases and set up and run mediation services for a top FTSE multinational company. I have trained conflict management skills for many years and am author of 'Conflict Management Tools", “DIY Mediation. The Conflict Resolution Toolkit for HR” and “8 Stages of Workplace Conflict”. My company Mediation4 helps organisations across all sectors manage workplace conflict. The focus is on supporting HR, enabling them to resolve conflict successfully, whether through using my DIY Mediation approach themselves or engaging my services as a professional mediator.Bringing together my experience as a manager and mediator I developed DIY Mediation to provide HR and line managers with a structured, mediation style approach to nip low-level conflict in the bud. I have trained hundreds of people in its use over several years providing them the skills and tools needed, and a practical process to follow - the AGREE model. My 25 years in the corporate world involved roles as diverse as MD of a company in Egypt to heading up a global graduate programme. One thing though is common, I enjoyed the challenge of managing teams and the people issues they create. I relish helping people free themselves from the pain of conflict and this is nowhere greater than in neighbour disputes. I work with Resolve, my local community mediation charity, helping resolve disputes from excessive noise to annoying pets.I am an Associate Consultant for Blake Morgan and People at Work, and have been a Consumer Conciliator for CEDR. Mediation restored the working relationship and avoided a grievance. • For an international company with a UK office – two individuals had previously worked well together but had had a falling out. Both high performers the company thought it had no option but to remove one of them. They opted for mediation and were able to repair the relationship avoiding the cost of recruitment and training.• For a FTSE 100 company – an inexperienced manager was trying to performance manage a team member who claimed they were being treated unfairly. Mediation avoided a lengthy double grievance investigation and repaired the relationship.One of the mediation participants who had been very reluctant to try mediation commented afterwards: “At the mediation Marc talked me through the process to ensure that I fully understood the process. He was calm, patient, professional and considerate. He confidently handled the difficult issues as they arose. He was able to process the complex information that he received and to draw out key points. He summarised well and asked for responses to issues raised when necessary. After the meeting I felt that I had moved forward, I regretted that I had not taken up the opportunity for mediation earlier, as I know that this would have been beneficial to me.“Another workplace mediation participant commented that "Marc was perfectly fair and always showing himself to be impartial. He was very trusting without ever coming across as judgemental." Despite reservations beforehand, the participant felt the outcome was a positive one: "I feared the worst but this seemed a therapeutic process." -
