My focus is on the management of protected crops and cropping systems.I first worked with crop and greenhouse models to optimize the climate management of tomato crops grown in glasshouses, using optimal control theory. Later on I also used Constraints Satisfaction methods to solve the same problem, using a different set of knowledge, modelling experts know-how.This experience demonstrated the usefulness of the growers knowledge, both as a way to complement scientific knowledge which at times can be very sparse, and as a way include different points of view and operational constraints in the description of the problem. Today, I am therefore involved in methods to merge knowledge from different origins and ways of expression (numerical or qualitative models etc.) and methods to characterize these knowledge in a uniform manner (certainty, preciseness...).I use the problem of the management of protected cropping as a working case, in the context of the agroecological design of these systems, spanning from vegetable cropping to mixed systems based on fruit trees and vegetable. Organic farming is also a target study case, as a special example of ecological farming.
