Consulting Solutions Engineer - Manager
As the Consulting Solutions Engineer Manager I manage a team of senior network engineers, working to deliver complex network solutions. For this role, I am responsible for: • Team Management: Monitoring and directing the team’s capacity to ensure engineers are able to balance their projects. This requires supervision of the wider team’s timelines and deliverables, as well as each member of staff’s personal development. This involves tracking and plotting capacity, projects, upcoming bids and any resourcing obstacles. • Stakeholder Management: The establishment and management of business critical relationships. This includes customers with unique operating environments and entails continuous communication with engineers and individual project managers from both internal and external teams. • Escalation Path: Acting as a key escalation point for internal teams and customers. This often necessitates quick action plans and resolutions in high pressured scenarios. • Project Delivery: Personal focus on bespoke network solutions from the design stage through to completion. This requires in depth technical knowledge and experience of project management. • Adoption of New Technologies: The discovery and adoption of cutting edge technologies that are utilised across the company. This involves the creation of training, manuals and best use cases. Most recently this has included SD-WAN in conjunction with regional cloud based firewalls and advanced End Point protection setups. This function also requires management of vendors, particularly communication around set up, roadblocks and possible termination.
Technical Trainer – Network Specialist
As the Technical Trainer at Exponential-e I am responsible for creating and developing a new internal training programme that will be delivered to all first, second and third line engineers. Within this role I have focused on:♣ An Internal Training Audit: The creation of annual implementation training plans has required an awareness of the engineers’ current skills and needs. This involved the identification of weakness within each network team, with learning resources tailored to each band’s distinct functions and remit. ♣ Training Modules: Modules have been created to follow the Agile Project Management model, with training created on a rolling basis. Utilising this model, I have created 10 modules, with this projected to rise to 20 by the end of 2018. Following this, modules will be created as and when necessary for business development. I have attached each training module to internal career targets, ensuring personal development throughout the company. ♣ Delivering Training: This involved the organisation of training sessions that are held each week. Sessions are delivered either by myself or the staff I have trained. Training sessions are intimate as they are created with the understanding that each attendee is unique in the knowledge they possess and the ways they best absorb information. Currently all first line engineers have begun their training with roll out now expanding to second and third line engineers. ♣ Learning Resources: To build staff confidence and ensure continuous learning, I have created materials that can be continuously referenced by those who have attended the training. Current resources include - but are not limited to - labs, examinations and workshops. ♣ Stakeholder Management: This programme is a top priority within Exponential-e and therefore includes a wide range of internal stakeholders. Updating and involving stakeholders from numerous teams has required both large scale presentations and smaller, more thorough meetings.
Third Line Network Specialist Team Lead
As a Third Line Network Specialist Team Lead I acted as an escalation point for both the Network Department and disgruntled customers. For this role, I was responsible for: ♣ Technical Escalations: I dealt with any escalations from the Second Line Team, whether this was due to a dissatisfied customer or a technical issue that could not be identified and/or fixed.♣ Customer Management: I predominantly focused on our elite customer networks – providing in depth knowledge of their organisation and systems. ♣ Team Management: Managing a team of 6-8. engineers. Within this, I had to delegate work, as well as ensure the team’s deliverables, wider response time and customer management. I also worked with each team member on their own personal and technical development.
Third Line Network Specialist 24/7
As a Third Line Network Specialist, I focused on planning and implementing changes within clients’ networks as well as technical escalations. Within this role I was responsible for: ♣ Device Implementation: Obtaining advanced knowledge of working with Fortinet and Palo Alto devices. ♣ Technical Changes: Tailoring, scheduling and completing large scale changes for customers. This required constant communication with the customer and supervision of the network team’s timeline. ♣ Escalation Point: Acting as an escalation point for the Second Line Team tickets, fielding both technical and customer questions. ♣ Innovation: Examining new technologies and systems. This involved liaising with other technical departments on new implementations and any defects these may have. ♣ Team Management: Acting as the technical team lead for a small team engineers.
Second Line Network Engineer 24/7
As a Second Line Network Engineer, I focused on resolving network faults that included internal issues within Exponential-e’s network, to clients’ external systems. Within this role I was responsible for: ♣ Switches and Routers: Operating on a range of switches and routers. This primarily involved work with Juniper, Cisco, Meraki and Alcatel systems. ♣ Network Incidents: Tending to a range of network incidents and managing our organisation’s response. ♣ Diagnostics and Modifications: Analysing and identifying network issues in our clients’ systems. This often required a quick turnaround and an ability to work under pressure. ♣ Communication: Consistent contact with customers and fellow engineers was necessary to diagnose problems swiftly and efficiently without any duplication of effort.
