I have started a new role as a research scientist with the AZGS. I will be focusing on mapping and characterization of historic mine waste for reprocessing and remediation.

I worked as an independent contractor for 5 years, providing mineral exploration services for multiple clients. Practical experience with low sulfidation epithermal systems, polymetallic veins, and Cu-Mo porphyries.--Faraday Copper: Mapping, drill planning, and petrography; Copper Creek, San Manuel, AZ (2023-2024) -Made a discovery with high grade intercepts that expanded the resource area.--Private client: Implemented/oversaw 38 hole sonic drill program of historic mine tailings in Bellevue, Idaho (2022)--Ivanhoe Electric: Geomechanical core logging at Santa Cruz Project, Casa Grande, AZ (2022)--Excellon Resources, Inc/Centerra Gold.: Core logging, mapping/sampling at Kilgore and Oakley projects (2021-2022)--Burgex, Inc.: Archival mine research and data compilation (remote, 2020)--Private clients: Petrography and preparation of geologic maps with GIS (2019-2020)

Worked primarily on the New Mexico Abandoned Mine Lands program, but assisted with other interdisciplinary studies and projects.AML Project:--Inventoried >400 mine features across 5 historic districts in New Mexico prioritizing them for reclamation based on physical and environmental hazards. --Characterized waste rock mineralogy and geochemistry with implications for remediation and reprocessing--Involved in studies examining mobility of radioactive tailings material from the Grants uranium district--Master's thesis: An inventory and mineralogical characterization of mines and prospects in the North Magdalena mining district, Socorro County, New Mexico.

Surveyed drying extents along the Rio Grande in and around the Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge during the irrigation season. Findings were reported to New Mexico Department of Game and Fish so they could rescue stranded silvery minnows (an endangered species) from remnant pools in the dry riverbed. Used a truck or ATV and GPS unit to locate and mark upstream and downstream drying extents along with locations of pools and other occurrences of water. Regularly used 4WD and work involved lots of hiking early in the morning (often in the dark) in deep mud and heavily vegetated floodplains.

During the summer of 2018, I worked as a geology intern at the Freeport-McMoRan Sierrita Mine in Sahuarita, Arizona. The project I worked on involved mapping structures and alteration in the south wall of the pit and then analyzing them with 3D modeling software. Sparked a company-wide movement geared towards celebrating interns on National Intern Day.

Studied the high pressure behavior of borate polyhedra in kernite using Raman and FTIR spectroscopy.Experience working with a small lab group, operating sensitive scientific instruments, writing a paper/making figures, collaborating on projects, etc. Presented my research at the AGU Fall Meeting in San Francisco 2015.Paper published in American Mineralogist, August 2018.

Taught a 3hr introductory California geology lab each week covering topics such as mineralogy, petrology, seismology, hydrology, structural geology, and coastal geology. Held office hours and review sessions, led field trips, graded assignments, proctored exams.

Academic tutor for oceanography, California geology, and mineralogy. Taught 3-5 1hr sections per week with up to 18 students at a time. Utilized active learning strategies, held review sessions, and helped students learn effective study methods.
