As a genetic molecular diagnostician, I was responsible for sample pick-up, processing, and management at the Department of Molecular Diagnostics in Lund. I handled up to 100 samples daily and was also tasked with the extraction of DNA and the subsequent performance of SNP analysis.During my time in the department, I had the opportunity to enhance my skills in various molecular techniques, including qPCR and PCR. Working in a diagnostic environment also gave me valuable insights into the importance of precision and ensuring the quality of extracted samples.

While working at the Biomedical Center in Lund, I had the opportunity to serve as a laboratory assistant for Gabriela Godalys's lab. My primary focus was on researching the bacterium "mycobacterium tuberculosis".Initially, my responsibilities included creating and maintaining cell cultures, assisting other students with their research projects, and getting familiar with the lab's techniques. As time went on, my duties expanded to isolating and cultivating macrophages through blood work, conducting serum tests, and performing MTT assays.This experience allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of independent experimentation, which was a skill that I lacked when I first started working there. Additionally, I was able to gain valuable insight into tuberculosis as a pathogen, including various testing methods and analytical approaches.

I work as a groundskeeper at the botanical garden in Lund. The position is part-time on the weekends. I come in during the morning shift and empty garden trashcans, remove litter from the grounds, clean the toilet stalls, and wipe off the park benches and tables.

I spent the summer of 2022 at the home healthcare unit at "Rosen" in Lund. The home health care services are connected to the municipality of Lund, and "Rosen" covers the central parts of Lund.Here, I was allocated home to my assigned patients troubled with ailments and issues that required various forms of care. The duties could range from simple administration of medication to more extensive and heavier tasks, such as assisting with visits to the shower and toilet. Depending on the patient's needs and requirements, I either worked alone or with a colleague.The experience was very giving and gave me valuable insight into the healthcare system in Sweden. The occupation taught me that communication is key, both with my colleagues and patients. The experience also encouraged one to be meticulous since the medical documentation was to be reviewed by each administration to make sure that everything was in order.

Project work done in junction with my bachelor's in Molecular Biology at Lund University. The practical work was conducted at the biomedical center in Lund with Dr. Anders Enjin as the main supervisor. This project aimed to test the protein "piezo" and its role in hygrosensation. There are ionotropic receptors known to play a pivotal role in sensing hygrosenstion in the fly, drosophila melanogaster. These sensory organs for hygrosensation are found in an enclosed space and work together with mechanosensory receptors to respond to such stimuli, one of which was hypothesized to be the piezo protein. My part of the project was to perform behavioral analysis of certain strains of knockouts to determine if there was a link between piezo and hygrosensation. My work also included breeding these knockouts, maintaining a working habitat for the flies, and supporting staining protocols.
