I am a Partner in the Chicago office as the Nationwide Leader in Healthcare Reimbursement Law. I represent healthcare providers in settlement negotiations, arbitrations, mediations, and state and federal court proceedings against health plans, insurance companies and the government.

My practice centered on the defense of liability claims, including professional, personal, premises and construction-related matters. I handled matters from initial analysis through discovery and pre-trial actions to settlement and final resolution.

At Segal, I focused my practice on the defense of civil litigation and toxic tort claims. In this role, I provided a range of legal services to my clients including extensive discovery work, motion practice and client reporting. I regularly evaluated client liability, took depositions, and drafted responsive pleadings on behalf my clients. I communicated with national coordinating counsel for a variety of industry clients and evaluated settlement disputes, suggested case strategies and analyzed discovery responses to limit client liability. Segal was a wonderful introduction in litigation and established a broad foundation for my current practice.

During my law school career I was fortunate to work as a law clerk at Querrey & Harrow for over two years. I researched and drafted briefs, motions to dismiss, temporary restraining orders, and deposition documents for construction litigation division on issues such as worker’s comp waivers, negligence and property liens. I also drafted plaintiff and defendant deposition abstracts and exhibit preparation materials for trial division. On occasion, I composed trial motions and research briefs for outside counsel of State Farm Insurance, Fraud Division,including four motions for summary judgment. During my last months as a law clerk I prepared motions to adjudicate health care services and property damage liens on behalf of clients involved in auto accidents involving loss of property and personal injury.

As a summer law clerk with Lewis Brisbois, I drafted research memos, discovery documents and exhibits for medical malpractice defense partners. I also researched and analyzed medical records, Illinois statute and case law for the insurance defense division. Additionally I created an expert witness database through jury verdict reporters and drafted witness deposition abstracts.

During my time with SAC I prepared and submitted appeals, demand letters, file reviews, and exhibits for litigation manager and partners’ review and analyzed more than 2,000 health care claims as part of exhibit preparation for multi-million dollar breach of contract lawsuit against a major health care provider.

After completing nearly all my undergraduate courses at U.C. Berkeley in only 3 years, I was fortunate to pursue my dream and coach football. For the 2009 football season, I volunteered as an assistant to the special teams and tight ends coach for the California Golden Bears. My duties ranged from film breakdown, player tracking, practice analysis, coaching and player tendencies, formation recognition and recruiting evaluation. I traveled with the team and worked day and night for an amazing organization that went 8-5 and at one point was a top -10 ranked team in the country with over 12 future NFL players on the roster, including Shane Vereen, Jahvid Best, Jeremy Ross, Tyson AluAlu, Cameron Jordan, Mike Mohammed, Marvin Jones III, Alex Mack, Stevie Williams, Chris Conte and Mitchell Schwartz. While my intellectual pursuits took me into the field of law, to this day, I will always cherish and look fondly on the experience.
