Quantum Research Engineer

Current

Pasadena, California, United States

I am a member of the Quantum Hardware Team helping to develop quantum computing technologies.

Aug 2020 - Present

Instrument Design Engineer

Pasadena

I worked on a number of projects while at NASA JPL. I designed the receiver instrument cryostat system for the Deep Space Optical Communications technology demonstrator at the 200" Palomar Observatory. This instrument uses a 64 pixel WSi superconducting nanowire single photon detector operating at 1 K. I designed an ultra-low magnetic field cryogenic thermal test chamber for the Europa Clipper Magnetometer project. I designed and built a 2 meter telescope for a millimeter-wave instrument for an unclassified ONR project. I recently designed and built a closed-cycle cryocooler test system for detector focal plane I&T for the MAIA satellite project. I recently served also the thermal engineer for the JPL contribution to the Euclid satellite's NI-DS Sensor Chip System (SCS) and as the cognizant engineer for the flight Cryogenic Flex Circuit of the SCS. I have also served as the instrument design engineer for the HAWC+ far-IR instrument for the SOFIA airborne observatory (delivered to SOFIA Feb 2016). HAWC+ is a 5120 pixel TES bolometer array operating at 100 mK which observes between 50-250 microns with polarization sensitivity to investigate the role of magnetic fields in star formation.

Oct 2012 - Aug 2020

Research Scientist

Led the assembly, integration and testing effort of six instrument inserts for a balloon-borne millimeter-wave bolometric polarimeter project to observe the polarization of the Cosmic Microwave Background.

Aug 2010 - Jan 2012

Senior Postdoctoral Researcher

Led mechanical, thermal, magnetic, and optical design of balloon-borne bolometric polarimeter instrument.

Aug 2007 - Aug 2010

Postdoctoral Scholar In Physics
