Marcus has had an exciting and varied career through the military, retail management and outdoor and adventurous education before deciding on a degree in Human Movement Studies and a Postgraduate Certificate in Secondary Physical Education. Having qualified at the age of thirty two he then also started lecturing for the National Coaching Foundation (NCF), qualified as a rowing coach and continued coaching rowing and sculling in his spare time. He became a Staff Tutor and Mentor for the NCF and a National coach for Welsh Rowing and later coached for Great Britain. He was also drawn into a newly formed professional Sports Science Unit within the Sports Council for Wales offering guidance to National Governing Bodies including the W.R.U. primarily focusing on Sports Science with a particular emphasis on Plyometric training. At this point he started to pursue his own consultancy again, Coaching Prospects.He moved to Pangbourne College as Director of Rowing in 1996 before going full time with his consultancy in 2003, after Pangbourne won Henley in that year. He became Head coach at Magdalen College, Cambridge and became heavily involved in coach education at a number of levels of tutoring, assessing and verifying for British Rowing. He joined the Dragon School in 2005 as Master in Charge of Sculling and additionally taught Physical Education rising to Head of Department there. He also took on a Pastoral commitment as Head of Years 7&8 within a year of arriving at the school.Marcus made a move again to Oundle School in 2016, initially as Head of Rowing, where he was teaching Physical Education and working as a qualified specialist in Developmental Coordination Disorder(DCD) and Dyspraxia up until the end of the Summer 2020. Marcus has now returned to self employment and re-floated his consultancy, Coaching Prospects, predominantly working as a British Rowing Coach Consultant Tutoring, Assessing and Mentoring at Level 2 and Level 3 across the country. From January 2024 he became Senior Mens' coach at Peterborough City Rowing Club. Marcus is now involved with the Eastern Region Rowing Council's coach development group and is their representative on British Rowing's National Coaching Committee.
