Medical Physicist Assistant
•proficient in the use of radiation detection devices and is responsible for the quality assurance (QA) of radiation equipment, radiation detection devices, as well as helps manage the data involved in the various aspects of the job•provides assistance in validating new radiotherapy technology and plays a very active role in the departmental quality control (QC) program•assist with any daily tasks within the Physics/Dosimetry Dept•Perform and document QA activities including but not limited to, measurements involving radiation devices and equipment that includes linear accelerators•Communicate the results in a timely manner to minimize any delays in care or causes any miscommunications•Maintain and properly use dosimetry equipment such as ionization chambers, electrometers, water phantom scanning systems, daily check devices, ion chamber arrays, as well as use all computers and software systems related•use thermometers, barometers, small tools, etc•Assists the certified physicists with all acceptance testing and calibration of new equipment•Maintains an orderly physics lab for the storage of all physics equipment•Participates within the scope of the job to assess and improve equipment and process that relate to quality assurance•Participates in the training of new staff as necessary•Assists the physicists and Radiation Safety Officer of the system with functions related to radiation safety when necessary including radiation surveys•Communicates with all areas of the Radiation Oncology Dept as needed especially but not limited to, radiation therapists, physicists, and dosimetrists•that may be related to costs, efficiency, patient comfort, better processes that could affect patient care with the radiation oncology dept•Participates in departmental educational meetings that pertain to any hardware QA/QC.
Clinical Physicist Assistant
• Work alongside with other physics professionals and assist in the general medical physics duties pertaining to safely operating a proton radiotherapy clinic.• Gain experience in simple plan checks, QA preparations/delivery, daily and monthly equipment/machine calibration.• Assist the Clinical Physicists in performing daily, monthly, and annual QA for the beam-delivery, ion chambers, water phantoms, and imaging systems.• Learn and perform daily patient-specific QA within treatment rooms using ion chambers and IBA’s matrix.• Train with Clinical Physicists on measurements or other evaluations as necessary to ensure accurate dose delivery for proton radiotherapy treatments.• Complete and maintain proper records of all required documentation relating to radiation treatment plans and equipment, QA, and calibration records.• Assist with Eclipse | Varian computerized treatment plans and the flow of information or images between simulation, planning, and delivery as needed.• Participate in maintenance of proton radiotherapy quality assurance programs and the commissioning of proton therapy equipment.• Support and be involved in the physics research and development projects ongoing in the institution.• Use independent judgment and apply learned methodologies according to established policy and procedures.• Uphold, maintain, and establish adequate protocols to ensure accurate patient dosimetry.
