I am an attorney with the Office of the Solicitor, U.S. Department of Labor. I am the proud to hail from a strong union family! My father is a career firefighter who served his union, International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) Local 249, as president. My grandfather was also a rank and file member of the IAFF, as well as a dedicated member of the Ohio Association of Public School Employees (OAPSE/AFSCME) Local 0107. And my Uncle was a member of the United Steelworkers (USW) and the United Auto Workers (UAW), retiring from Ford after a 17-year career. And I am honored to carry on that essential tradition as a union member with AFGE. Through their stories and experiences, I grew up understanding the immense role state and federal labor/employment law has played in my family’s life. Notably, when Ohio tried to strip public sector workers, like my father and grandfather, of their right to collectively bargain, I learned the true value of collective action and laws protecting the rights of workers. Protesting Ohio Senate Bill 5 in 2011 by my father's side and watching as proud and fearless public sector workers stood their ground and overturned the attack on workers’ rights through voter referendum was the catalyst to my desire to become a lawyer for working people. Like many others, I could not stand idle as workers continue to suffer egregious workplace injustice and inequality. My career as an attorney is founded on these unwavering principles: Every worker has a right to use their voice in the workplace; Every worker has the right to go home safe; Every worker deserves to make a living wage; Every worker has the right to the benefits they have earned; and every worker is entitled to a dignified retirement.
