The College of Law New Zealand provides Practical Legal Training, Wellbeing and Leadership training to all levels of the legal profession and the wider professional services industry in New Zealand. By utilising both onsite and online learning solutions the College prepares law graduates for admission to practice and assists legal practitioners in achieving their career goals through continuing professional development. Key Responsibilities • Leadership and people management involving day to day operation Nationwide 50 – 60 people• Acquisition of new Wellbeing and Leadership division, FrontTier to increase portfolio diversification• Provide overall strategic direction and focus for the organisation• Effective communication to stakeholders, Board and team as well as establishing effective communication externally with public sector organisations and associations• Workforce planning and succession planning including ensuring profitability and revenue generation• Compliance and governance including risk management, policies and procedures• Forecasting and budgeting and reporting• New business development which may include acquisition, developing associations or partnerships.• Develop sustainable business relationships externally.

The Executive Director manages the College of Law New Zealand and its associated Board to ensure the achievement of the Groups strategic and domestic targets whilst adhering to the organisations various governance and compliance requirements. Primary Responsibilities:Develop annual strategic goals in conjunction with College of Law New Zealand Board and the College of Law Australia. Develop and effectively manage the COLNZ budget. Lead the College of Law New Zealand team ensuring achievement of group, domestic and individual goals. Manage the College of Law New Zealand Board ensuring that all governance and reporting matters are complied with in a timely manner. Responsible for growing the College of Law New Zealand’s core business. Implementing and growing new legal education markets. Ensure compliance with all regulatory bodies associated with the College of Law New Zealand and the wider Group. Actively seek and secure new business opportunities in accordance with the Groups objectives; develop and implement a range of marketing activities to underpin new business development and increase revenue with existing customers. Engage in regular stakeholder dialogue to build and maintain positive working relationships

Auckland District Law Society Inc. provides a range of highly successful commercial services to the nationwide legal profession. These include the provision of legal forms in both hard copy and electronic formats (WebForms), the twice yearly publication of the New Zealand Lawyers Directory, the Legal Practice Manual, Continuing Legal Education seminars and conferences, the Law Society Store and numerous collegial and networking opportunities. In addition to commercial services the society also has 17 special interest committees resourced by volunteers from the membership. The surplus generated by these successful commercial services ensures practitioners’ annual membership fees are kept as low as possible. The General Manager role was the culmination of a number of years of change and restructure. My responsibilities also reflect those shown as Director Member Services but with the addition of a greater business development focus and the continuation of some historic responsibilities from the Acting General Manager role.

Responsible for the day to day management of the Society ensuring the delivery of high quality products and services to both the membership and the wider legal profession.

As Director Member Services I was successful in achieving and was accountable for a range of activities focused on the acquisition and retention of members throughout New Zealand. Implementation of a business strategy to ensure continued market domination of existing commercial revenue streams to members and non-members. Comprehensive research, active consideration and assessment of new business opportunities. The marketing of both the Auckland District Law Society brand and its products and services to the profession and the public. Working with the legal profession to provide solutions that aid practice support and workplace efficiencies. Managing a team to produce and deliver all societal commercial services efficiently thus ensuring the protection of high profit margins. The creation, management and reporting of budgets at a product and departmental level. Managing special interest committees resourced by members of the profession to consider and research new opportunities. In addition to the above I was also involved with the various society committees and was the secretary of the Members Special Fund, a benevolent fund that provides members of the legal profession and their families with financial and personal support.
