Mark a.k.a. Marcus McFly was born with a rare disability known as undiagnosed congenital myopathy which affects his ability to stand or walk. Growing up with this condition has made things more challenging but it hasn’t stopped him from pursuing his passion for music.At the age of 10, Mark began listening to hip-hop and not long after, started to write his own songs. Inspired by the unique sounds, lyrics and style of hip-hop, Mark knew this was what he wanted to do with his life. By age 17, Mark had started performing at local shows and solidifying his spot within the Adelaide hip-hop community. Not satisfied with simply creating his own music, Mark began working at the Northern Sound System, a youth music and creative industries facility nestled in the heart of Elizabeth.Here, he took on a lead facilitator role to rebuild the weekly hip-hop program that gives the youth in the community an opportunity to compose and record their own songs.In 2018 Mark joined the Carclew family as a Creative Consultant, a role that involves facilitating creative workshops in communities and with businesses. This has helped him to hone his skills as a workshop facilitator and inspired him to seek more opportunities in this field.During the COVID-19 Pandemic, Mark was instrumental in keeping the Hip-Hop program alive when everyone was forced to work from home and when it came time to relaunch the program with the new Covid-19 restrictions.In early 2023, due to funding limitations the program was shut down. Heartbreaking as it was, this lead to Mark co-founding Creative Kingdom Collective, a company that provides songwriting, recording and mentoring for aspiring artists living with disabilities.Due to personal experiences both recent and not-so-recent, Mark has also become a staunch advocate for the disabled community, speaking out against corruption within the NDIS and the justice system.
