Marc van der Aa was born in Hulst (the Netherlands) in 1979. He studied at the Utrecht School of Journalism (SVJ) and graduated in 2004. With a scholarship from the Dutch VSB Foundation, he started studying photography at the Argentine School of Photography (EAF). He participated in various other courses, such as Photojournalism with Sudaca Photo Agency and Essay Photography with Argentine photographer Tony Valdez. Ideally, Van der Aa is a traveler, photographer and writer. He works in different disciplines, varying from cinema, event coverage and fashion to publicity and essay photography. He worked for different international NGO's and production companies, documenting various projects.His work has been published in different books, magazines and newspapers. On a commercial level, he worked for different clients, realizing campaigns and shoots for brands such as BMW, NIKE, Infinit Eyewear and Route 66. Van der Aa covered a great many events, from dj Armin van Buuren’s world tour Armin Only till the Dakar Rally and from indigenous ceremonies in the Bolivian highlands to the annual Elite Model Look in Amsterdam. On an artistic level, he put together various solo exhibitions in the Netherlands, Argentina and Mexico and participated in a couple of collective shows.After moving to Mexico, Marc started focussing on event photography and was asked to become a partner at Alive Coverage, a US based company, working worldwide, covering events, festivals and corporate gigs. Nowadays he lives in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, with his wife and son.
