I am grateful to be a four-time Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia survivor, speaker, and patient advocate for young adults facing challenges in life during and post cancer care. For Adolescents and Young Adults (AYAs), challenges including, but not limited to, mental health, fertility and preservation, treatment and aftercare, back to school and work concerns, cancer-related fatigue and brain fog, are among the many challenges that AYA's with cancer struggle with in treatment and well into survivorship. AYAs with cancer are a unique cohort or patients that require more specialized support. In sharing my personal experience, I hope to shed light on the unique challenges that AYAs with cancer journey through, as well as take part in the ongoing initiatives to improve patient care and outcomes. As a cancer survivor, I have given multiple motivational and education speeches and presentations grounded in my personal experience with mental health and cancer related issues. I am an advocate for breaking the stigma around mental health, vulnerability, and understanding grief as a valid emotion essential in the path towards healing.
