The Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery (DBHR) created a Community Prevention and Wellness Initiative (CPWI) Prevention Fellowship in 2019 that I have been a part of since graduating Washington State University (WSU). The new program is supported by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) State Opioid Response grant and implemented in partnership with WSU. I am currently in Phase 3 of this fellowship, which placed me in a high-need community near my hometown. I am working on the "Getting Started" portion of the Strategic Planning Framework which includes identifying key leaders and champions to represent various sectors of the community, coordinating with existing prevention partners, and engaging with local Healthy Youth Survey data to better understand the current community climate.
