Maria A. Serrano is a senior researcher in the R&I department at Nearby Computing. She received her PhD in Computer Architecture from the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC) in March 2019. She studied a B.S / M.S in Computer Science Engineering and a M.S. in Systems Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Zaragoza, Spain. The research conducted within the scope of her thesis focused on critical real-time embedded systems, concretely on providing them with higher performance to implement advanced functionalities in a safe and predictable way. Currently, her research and development work also focuses on orchestration techniques in the edge cloud computing domain.

PhD title: “A Time-Predictable Parallel Programming Model for Real-Time Systems”Contributions: Given the new functionalities and performance requirements of critical real-time embedded systems, the industry is considering the use of many-cores, multi-cores and heterogeneous architectures. Parallel programming models, such as OpenMP, are of paramount importance to exploit the computation capabilities of these parallel architectures.
