Dr. Hoffmann has been with the FDA’s Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition since 2013. Dr. Hoffmann is the subject matter expert for long-read sequence technology and leads the long read program at CFSAN. She also leads the precision genomics team at CFSAN. Their work is to better understand the persistence and adaptation of foodborne pathogens in the food supply to help better to treat foodborne contaminations. Dr. Hoffmann is a technical advisor for Codex Alimentarius Committee on Food Hygiene (CCFH), the convenor of the WGS working group on AMR under ISO TC 34/SC 9 (Microbiology of food and feed) and an active member of IAFP. She has published more than 100 publications.

Dr. Hoffmann employed whole genome sequencing (WGS) to study multidrug resistant Salmonella isolates. She also worked on next generation sequencing projects to show how WGS is important in source tracking of foodborne contamination events and she applied 3rd generation sequence technology to completely close bacterial genomes and their plasmids.

Her dissertation research conducted at the U.S.FDA employed nucleotide sequence-based phylogenetic analyses to differentiate Vibrio species.
