About Maria Karanicolas

I have a passion for addressing global issues regarding sustainability, environmental justice and climate change. I would love to work with a team of like-minded individuals to foster positive changes in these subject areas. The completion of a BA.H focused in Environmental governance at the University of Guelph has taught me the importance of intersectional advocacy and systems thinking. My minor in sustainable business and work experience in the insurance industry has equipped me with immense knowledge and hands on experience implementing corporate philanthropy, social finance and sustainable development initiatives. I am currently pursing a Masters of Environment and Business at the University of Waterloo whereby I regularly explore the use of business as a tool for good. I affirm my commitment to life long learning and believe that we have an unwavering responsibility to decolonize our education, thought processes, and practices as settlers on Turtle Island. My experiences have developed me into a strong leader that is determined to make a positive impact on the world.
