I teach a variety of educational courses: instructional design of cutting-edge, inclusive teaching materials; teaching and learning principles and practice; learning theories; child development theories and theories of Second Language Acquisition. I facilitate and mentor SL teachers-in-training in their practicum courses teaching in the bilingual primary school environment in Dubai as they hone their skills in observing and reflecting on best practices in the classroom and then implement them. Reflection, on observation and feedback are key skills used in these components. Designing appropriate formative and summative assessment tools and curriculum and instructional enhancement are on-going requirements.

Delivered a variety of courses in critical reading skills and academic essay-writing (including documentation of source and referencing) in at least three different, major rhetorical modes to Arts and Sciences majors freshmen. In achieving these teaching aims, I enhanced my own skills in the use of digital media - computer labs, data show and PowerPoint facilities and web-based search and evaluation. I became particularly interested in developing on-line tools for practising writing in real time as well as follow-up peer review moderated through the use of educational management / authoring programmes like Blackboard and ‘Moodle’. I also planned and organised the 1st DWS Professional Round-Table (May, 2005) and was a major instigator of the initiative to bring together the First Anthology of Students’ Writing.

Lead Teacher - Business responsibilities ranged across development/revision of course objectives; creation of new courses; syllabus development; materials design and adaptation; in-house development of summative assessments; formative testing tools; team co-ordination; liaison with College Faculty; participation in academic management and curriculum design committees. particularly interested in adapting existing teaching methods to the digital environment; the use of Data Show and PowerPoint facilities in the classroom; identifying opportunities and challenges of course delivery in wireless classrooms; development of the writing skill through in-class student use of laptops with out-of-class follow-up on-line.Encouraged students to enhance oral presentations and project reports by identifying and appropriately incorporating reliable, web-based resources.

As well as teaching and teacher-training duties, responsible for the recruitment, supervision and development of teaching staff. Also responsible for the maintenance and enhancement of the academic programmes of the institute, the development of the teaching and study resources and the maintenance of international language examination centre status and liaison with outside academic bodies of interest.

Taught Methodology of Language Teaching and one Applied Linguistics content course per annum in addition to EAP. As well as teaching duties, responsible for overseeing the affairs of the department (52 faculty), heading up curriculum reform; inter-departmental liaison, attendance on university standing committees; student admissions and assessment, etc.
