Program Director Continuing Education and Workforce Economic Development Department. My tenure in the community as a college representative for outreach included providing bilingual presentations to very large groups, at times in the thousands. I provided presentations at middle schools, high schools, proprietary schools and within my college. I assisted with all-college registration and served on the taskforce for the creation of a new college registration process. Throughout the years in ESL/ESOL, I assisted in the creation of an ESOL advisement center, specifically in the rendering, facility upgrade, set-up, hiring and basic layout of services. I restructured and expanded a community-based ESL program, co-chaired the implementation of a district-wide ESL Teaching Academy, and expanded occupational ESL and basic skills into local business and industry. I also developed an international teachers' partnership. I served as director of two chambers of commerce, provided city-wide industry training and represented the college on the board of a chamber on the east side of Dallas.Faculty, ESOL: Taught all strands for language learners and chaired the ESOL Discipline Committee.
Cedar Valley College
As a full-time faculty member and a very young professor, I was mentored and trained in the DCCCD to take my expertise and knowledge in second language acquisition, field research, and classroom instruction and embed it into the programming for reading and ESOL within the district. I established myself as a great resource for my institutions. At Cedar Valley College, I worked with open-ended migrant ESL programs. I then transferred after 7 years. At Eastfield College, I worked as an outreach/recruitment expert. I reinforced existing reading programs, taught all levels of ESOL, and co-implemented an ESOL tutoring lab.
